New FM, New Saves: Two Scandinavian Clubs to Manage in FM27

With the impending launch of Football Manager 27 (FM27), we’ll all be looking for new save ideas, new teams to manage and new challenges. We all have our preferred ways to play – personally, I like to rebuild clubs that were once successful, but have faded into the nether.

This is going to be a mini-series covering a couple of clubs at a time. I’m starting with the club I’m currently managing: a once-successful Danish side that has spent over 20 years outside the top flight. That club is…

Akademisk Boldklub Gladsaxe

Akademisk Boldklub play in the Gladsaxe Stadium, which is north of Copenhagen. Last season they were promoted to the Danish second tier, the 1st Division, also known as the Betinia Liga! Between 1943 and 1952, the club won five Danish Championships. They have won nine in total, the last coming in 1967. The club also won the Danish Cup in 1999, the only one the club has ever won. A fun fact about the club is that Nobel Prize-winning physicist Niels Bohr played for the club as a goalkeeper!

So, can you do what I did, and bring the glory days back to one of the oldest, most successful clubs in Denmark?

You’ll have to overcome giants such as FC Copenhagen and FC Midtjylland domestically, clubs that have a lot more money, much better players and excellent facilities. It’s a fun task to take on, whilst not being overwhelmingly hard.

Staying in Scandinavia, I introduce my second club…

Bryne FK

Yes, I have grown somewhat of a soft spot for the Scandinavian leagues from my AB save… but why Bryne? Well, this is a club that has had very little success. It has never won the top flight, despite two runner-up finishes in 1980 and 1982. The club has won the Norwegian Cup, but only the once, back in 1987.

The club last competed in Europe in the 1988/89 season when they featured in the Cup Winners’ Cup, losing 4-2 on aggregate to Békéscsaba Előre SSC from Hungary in the preliminary round.

The club produced both Erling Haaland and his dad, Alf-Inge, through its academy.

Bryne were recently relegated back to Norway’s second tier, the 1st Division, after returning to the top flight for the first time in over 20 years.

Getting them back up, challenging for the title and playing in Europe while bringing through your own academy products would be a fun task. You’ll have to topple clubs like Viking and Bodø/Glimt to become the best club in Norway.

You could even try to bring Erling Haaland back to the club where he started his career as an extra side challenge!

That’s it for now, I’ll be back soon with two more suggestions of clubs that I think are great career options for FM27!
