Money in the Bank Preview

This Saturday night (10 October) sees the 17th annual Money in the Bank premium live event at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. The countdown show starts at 4pm ET (9pm BST), with the main event starting at 6pm ET (11pm BST).

This is how I see the event going, with the order of matches to be confirmed.

Women’s Money in the Bank match

All six of these women have been or will be champions at some point in their WWE careers. There are three fan favourites – Tiffany Stratton, Lola Vice and Sol Ruca – and three heels: Jacy Jayne, Lash Legend and Roxanne Perez. I can see Nia Jax, the rest of Fatal Influence and Raquel Rodriguez getting involved at some point, making this one more chaotic than usual. We might also see Chelsea Green make an appearance to help Tiffany, hoping she goes for the other championship.

Winner – I can see a little curveball happening in this event. I think Roxanne Perez wins the briefcase…

Oba Femi vs Bronson Reed

This has the potential to be the match of the night: two big, strong men going blow for blow. On Monday Night Raw, Paul Heyman advised Bronson Reed to hit Oba with Tsunami after Tsunami after Tsunami (there were several more Tsunamis mentioned). Heyman had witnessed Oba destroy Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam despite taking several F5s. I expect plenty of Tsunamis from Reed and powerbombs from Oba Femi. It wouldn’t surprise me if Austin Theory and Logan Paul got involved somehow, although Paul is still recovering from his torn triceps. Even then, I don’t think it will help Reed win.

Winner – Oba Femi. The Vision’s involvement could lead to a disqualification, but I think he gets a clean win.

Stephanie Vaquer vs Liv Morgan vs Becky Lynch – Women’s World Championship

Stephanie Vaquer was due to defend her Women’s World Championship against the winner of Monday’s No. 1 Contender’s Match between Becky Lynch and Liv Morgan. Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez interfered, and Vaquer came out to alert referee Jessika Carr. After Lynch accidentally struck her, Vaquer attacked both competitors, ending the match without a winner. She then asked Raw GM Adam Pearce to make the title match a triple threat. This is where I think the curveball happens: if Roxanne wins the briefcase, I can see her cashing in on Liv after Morgan wins the title, triggering a split within the women’s side of The Judgment Day.

Winner – Liv Morgan pins Becky Lynch to win the title. I then think Roxanne Perez cashes in and beats Morgan.

Men’s Money in the Bank match

All six of these men have plenty of fans, so this one is a tough call. I expect Penta and Je’Von Evans to provide the high-flying moves, while Trick Williams and CM Punk try to pick up the pieces and Kevin Owens and Bron Breakker smash everything that moves. To borrow a phrase from legendary announcer Jim Ross, this could be an old-fashioned slobberknocker.

Winner – Tough one to call but I think it will be Kevin Owens, setting up a Kevin Owens v Sami Zayn title match at Crown Jewel.

Roman Reigns vs LA Knight – World Heavyweight Championship

This should be a cracking match and a fitting end to the event. I can see Reigns taking control before Knight fights his way back into it. We might see Jimmy, Jey and Solo get involved, along with the 946, potentially setting up a clash with The Bloodline at Survivor Series. The 946 would need a couple more people; Carmelo Hayes has been rumoured, but that remains speculation. With Jaida Parker in the 946, I could also see Naomi returning to The Bloodline.

Winner – Roman Reigns eventually gets the pin. I think the interference could leave LA Knight demanding a rematch at Crown Jewel, while building towards a WarGames match between The Bloodline and the 946.
