RedZone is already one of the best ways to spend an NFL Sunday. This is an attempt to make it just a little bit more chaotic.
Each week, the RedZone Parlay will be four anytime touchdown scorers picked purely with the Sunday viewing experience in mind. This is not supposed to be some huge-value betting system or a promise of easy profit. It is a long-shot, low-stakes bet designed to give you four extra reasons to shout at the television every time Scott Hanson takes us inside the 20.
This week’s four selections are being played as a Lucky 15: four singles, six doubles, four trebles and one fourfold. At 50p per line, that is a total stake of £7.50, with a potential return of approximately £551.50 at the prices below.
Baker Mayfield — 11/2
Cleveland Browns @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Sometimes the best touchdown bets do not need a spreadsheet behind them.
Mayfield gets his old team this week, and if Tampa Bay find themselves close to the goal line, you can be fairly sure he will be aware of exactly who is standing on the other side. Quarterback rushing touchdowns can be difficult to predict, but Mayfield has never exactly been shy about embracing a narrative.
If he gets a chance to scramble one in or keep it himself near the line, he would absolutely love the opportunity to rub it in Cleveland’s face.
Drake Maye — 13/5
Pittsburgh Steelers @ New England Patriots
Week One was rough for Maye, but his legs remain one of the most dangerous parts of his game.
The Steelers’ defence should cause New England problems, and that might actually help this particular bet. Pressure can force a quarterback out of structure, and Maye is at his most dangerous when a play breaks down and he has the option to take off.
If Pittsburgh collapse the pocket but leave space in front of him, Maye has the athleticism to turn a broken play into six points. He is always a threat around the goal line.
Makai Lemon — 4/1
Philadelphia Eagles @ Tennessee Titans
This feels like a get-right spot.
Lemon had a quiet opening week, but I expect Philadelphia to make a conscious effort to get him more involved in the offence. A trip to Tennessee gives them an opportunity to do exactly that.
At 4/1, I am taking the chance that the Eagles manufacture a few more opportunities for him and one of them comes near the goal line. After a disappointing Week One, this looks like the sort of game where they can start expanding his role.
Caleb Williams — 10/3
Minnesota Vikings @ Chicago Bears
This is the game where I am hoping RedZone earns its name.
I am expecting points, which should mean plenty of trips into scoring territory for Chicago. Williams always has the ability to take off when the defence gives him a lane, and the more snaps the Bears get around the Minnesota goal line, the more chances there are for him to call his own number.
It does not need to be a designed quarterback run. One scramble, one broken play or one opening at the goal line is enough.
The RedZone Parlay
- Baker Mayfield anytime TD — 11/2
- Drake Maye anytime TD — 13/5
- Makai Lemon anytime TD — 4/1
- Caleb Williams anytime TD — 10/3
Lucky 15: 50p per line
Total stake: £7.50
Potential return: approximately £551.50
The chances of all four landing are obviously slim. That is the point. This is not supposed to be the bet that pays the mortgage. It is a cheap Sunday sweat that gives you something to root for across several games while RedZone bounces around the league.
If one of our quarterbacks dives over the pile while Hanson is screaming about another touchdown, even better.
Bet responsibly. Only gamble with money you can afford to lose.
